Cocktail of the Month: Dan of a New Era

Upside Dawn

6 Fresh Raspberries

.5 ounce / 15 ml fresh lemon juice

.5 ounce / 15 ml agave syrup

.25 ounces / 7 ml apple cider vinegar

2 dashes rose water

Glassware: Collins

Muddle fresh raspberries in a cocktail shaker

Add all ingredients EXCEPT Upside Dawn to shaker with ice

Shake well for 10 seconds

Strain over fresh ice in a Mason Jar or Collins Glass

Top with Upside Dawn

Garnish with fresh raspberries

Building a Life Abroad on Unstable Ground

In today’s episode I will be talking with Daniel De Biasi founder of the podcast, Emigrant’s Life where he showcases the stories of people who venture to live abroad. He will be sharing his story. When he was just 27 years old, Daniel left Italy for a new adventure in New Zealand. He quit a secure job, against the advice of many, and boarded a plane with no English and no idea what would come next. What followed was four and a half years of living his dream life. Because moving to a new country was such an eye-opening experience, Daniel decided to do it again. So he moved to Canada with the hopes of making it his permanent home. The immigration process was crazy and stressful, but he persevered and is now living his Canadian dream!

Richard Zimler on Right to Write

Richard Zimler’s novels have been translated into 23 languages and have appeared on bestseller lists in 12 countries. His new work – The Incandescent Threads – will be published in the summer of 2022 by Parthian Books. This novelwas previously named one of the Books of the Year by the two major bookstore chains in Portugal, where Richard has lived since 1990. It was a Number 1 bestseller there and is the latest work in Richard’s Sephardic Cycle, a group of independent novels that explore the lives of different generations of a Portuguese-Jewish family. The other books in this series are The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon, Hunting Midnight, Guardian of the Dawn and The Seventh Gate.

Richard has lived in Portugal since 1990. In 2017, he was awarded Porto’s highest honor, the Medal of Honor. His website is www.zimler.com

The Week People Went Off Script

This week we saw the Oscar’s hit rock bottom or more precisely Chris Rock bottom. The excitement of the show, the tension of waiting to know who would win the category prizes was enough to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, unless you have alopecia.

Joe Biden was unlucky this week. Joe Biden can’t string a line of words together, and people get frustrated speech after speech, then all of a sudden he does! He did clearly ad lib on the end of an autocue – and lo and behold he ruins weeks of disciplined international diplomacy. Yes, he blurted out that we all want regime change in Russia when we were all pretending not.

Interview with Guillaume Piens

Guillaume is an art historian by training, artistic director of cultural events, and an avid art collector. He worked among others for FIAC, the International Contemporary Art Fair, and he directed the Paris Photo Fair from 2008 to 2011.

Parisian Artist Anna Gillis on La Vie Creative

“Color is the defining element in my work and a common thread throughout my portfolio. I create abstract patterns using line and color, or dramatic portraits with extreme hues. Both drawing and painting are key in my work, and I aim to unite the two in my pieces.”

Anna Gillis was born and raised in the U.S. in California. She attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where she studied Studio Art and Graphic Design. Following college, she moved to New York City where she worked for a fine art gallery. In 2019, she moved to Paris, where she currently lives and works.
